Wiktel Backup Installation Instructions
This page will walk you through the installation of the Wiktel Backup software.
The Wiktel Backup application requires the .NET Framework 2.0. You either don't have the framework installed, or your security settings are preventing the code on this page from finding out. To install the .NET Framework 2.0 and the Wiktel Backup application together, follow the instructions below. If it turns out you already have the .NET Framework 2.0, the installer will automatically bypass the first few steps. You can catch up by skipping down to "Installing the Wiktel Backup Application".
If you see a yellow bar at the top of this page which says, "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer.", click it. Then click "Allow blocked content...". Finally, click "Yes". This will allow the code on this page to determine if you have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed. If you do, a large portion of this page will disappear, making the instructions much easier to follow.
Installing the .NET Framework 2.0
- To start the installation, click the Install button at the bottom of this page. It's recommended that you read all the instructions before beginning.
- After you click the install button, you will see a dialog asking if you
want to Save or Run the file. Choose "Run".
- After the file downloads, you'll be prompted with a security warning.
Click "Run" again.
- You'll then see the .NET Framework license agreement. To continue the
installation, click "Agree".
- After agreeing to the installation, the .NET Framework 2.0 will be
downloaded from Microsoft. The time this takes depends on the speed of your
Internet connection.
- When the download completes, the installation of the .NET Framework 2.0
will start automatically.
- When the .NET Framework 2.0 installation completes, the Wiktel Backup installation will continue. Follow the second set of directions below.
- You'll see a verification dialog which ensures everything is
up-to-date. You may see this dialog during the use of the Wiktel Backup
program, when it checks to see if there are updates available.
- As the Wiktel Backup software is preparing to install, you'll see another
security warning. The software is being downloaded from backup.wiktel.com,
so it's safe to click "Install".
- Then the Wiktel Backup software will be downloaded and installed. This may
take a while, depending on the speed of your connection and your computer.
- When the installation is complete, you'll see the Wiktel Backup application open. You can access it again later from the Start Menu. Click "All Programs", then "Wiktel", then "Wiktel Backup". From here, see the instructions to configure the Wiktel Backup software.
